ABOUT LVA ASSOCIATION
The Lake Victoria Aquaculture (LVA) Association is a leading industry platform dedicated to strengthening and unifying Kenya’s aquaculture sector in the Lake Victoria region. Founded in 2023 with support from Ohala Africa, LVA brings together fish farmers, processors, input suppliers, researchers, and other value-chain actors to advance sustainable aquaculture growth and collective action.
As a credible voice for the sector, LVA champions effective policy, investment, and business environments for aquaculture. Its work includes convening major forums that unite public- and private-sector stakeholders around sustainable development pathways, and advocating for equitable regulatory frameworks that consider the realities of small- and medium-scale enterprises.
In December 2024, LVA took decisive action to protect the interests of industry participants by filing a constitutional petition at the Milimani High Court to challenge newly gazetted fisheries regulations that threatened to impose punitive fees and undermine food security, livelihoods, and sector competitiveness.
Through collaboration, evidence-based advocacy, and a commitment to inclusive growth, the LVA Association has rapidly established itself as a serious, influential force shaping the future of aquaculture in Kenya’s Lake Region and beyond.
